What are the dates and event times for the Wild Lights?
Wild Lights runs Thursday- Sunday from March 5 - April 25, 2020. Gates will open at 6:30 p.m. and guests must exit by 10:00 p.m. Additionally, Wild Lights will be open each day, Monday, March 30- Sunday, April 5. Gates open at 6:30 p.m.and guests must exit by 10 p.m.
Do regular, day-time Zoo hours change?
No, day-time hours will not be changed for Wild Lights nights.
Is Wild Lights a family-friendly event?
Wild Lights is an event for everyone to enjoy! This is a cultural experience designed to delight guests of all ages. It is ideal for a family outing, a date night, or a get-together with friends.
What about rain or cold weather?
This is a rain or shine event. The lanterns will glow beautifully no matter what the weather. Be sure to bring gear appropriate for rain or cold weather. A limited number of rain ponchos and other clothing items will be available for purchase at the Main Gift Shop.Safety is our first priority. The Zoo reserves the right to close or cancel the event if weather conditions are assessed to be as safety hazard.
How do I get to the Zoo for Wild Lights?
The Louisville Zoo

The Zoo is easy to find and just 15 minutes from downtown Louisville, KY; easily accessible from 1-64 and I-65.
1. Take I-264 (Watterson Expressway) to Newburg Road Exit #15, and travel North
2. Turn left on Trevilian Way
3. Follow the Zoo signs to 1100 Trevilian Way. The Zoo will be on the left.
Road Closings/ No Parking
The following road closings begin at 5:30 p.m . on event days: Illinois Ave. from Trevilian Way to Taylor Ave., Russell Ave. and Grenade Ave. from Poplar Level Road to Illinois Ave. There will also be signs posted for no parking on Illinois Ave. from Trevilian Way to Taylor Ave., Russell Ave., Grenade Ave., Tycoon Way, and Oak Hill Rd.
Is there off-site parking or a Zoo shuttle?
There is NO off-site parking or Zoo shuttle. Be sure not to park in the old Kmart parking lot or you may be towed.
Where do we park? Is there a cost?
Cost is $5 per car (cash only). Although parking at the Zoo is free for Louisville Zoo members during regular hours, it is not included in memberships for after-hours events such as the Wild Lights: Asian Lantern Festival. Parking passes are not available online. Parking is first come, first served. Please remember to bring cash for parking.
Can you see the animals during the Wild Lights
Many of the animals will not typically be on exhibit in the evenings so they can rest and maintain their regular schedule. However, you may catch some of our late-night party animals (weather permitting). You are most likely to see maned wolves, bears, snow leopards, and rhinos.
Are strollers and wheelchairs available for rental?
Yes, the Louisville Zoo rents strollers, wagons and wheelchairs (limited number) from the front plaza. Motorized wheelchairs are available in limited number during the Wild Lights: Asian Lantern Festival, but only if reserved in advance. For more information and prices, click here.
Is the carousel going to be open during the event?
Yes, the carousel will be open during Wild Lights. Carousel rides are $2 for all members and non-members during this after-hours fundraiser. All attractions are seasonal and subject to the cooperation of weather, animals and Zoo maintenance.
Is smoking permitted?
No. For the safety of our guests, smoking (including e-cigarettes) is prohibited anywhere on Zoo grounds during this after-hours event.
What kind of food will be served at Wild Lights?

Can I touch the lanterns?
No, most of our lanterns are hand-crafted and are meant to be viewed, not handled. Please do not touch or climb the lanterns, cross or lean on barriers in front of the lanterns. We will have some interactive lanterns, including swings, lily pads and wings, that will allow guests to get up close and become part of the beauty of the lantern festival.
How long is the route for the Wild Lights Asian Lantern Festival?
The route is 1.4 miles long and takes around one hour to walk through. This is a walking event, there are no shuttles.
Will we be lighting and releasing lanterns at the festival?
No, our handcrafted lanterns are illuminated with LED bulbs and will stay firmly on the ground.
Is the route handicapped accessible?
Yes, the event is wheelchair and stroller friendly on a paved path, however, please be aware that there are some steep hills.
Can I take photographs?
Yes! You are welcome to take photos and we’d love to see them! Share your fun photos on our social media channels by tagging #louzoowildlights. Please be considerate of other guests; do not block pathways or the views of others while waiting for that perfect shot. Wild Lights photographs and videos are not to be used for commercial purposes.
What are the performances and when will they occur each evening?
Captivating live performances will occur on the MetaZoo stage three times each evening including Chinese acrobats, jugglers, and more. Performances will take place at 7:15 p.m., 8 p.m. and 8:45 p.m.
May I get a refund or exchange my ticket for another
date if my child becomes ill or something comes up?
Sorry, we cannot exchange or refund tickets for this important Zoo fundraiser.
Does the Family 4-pack work for any combination of adults/children?
The Family 4-pack works for guests of all ages.
The date I want is sold out. Can I buy tickets at the Zoo ticket windows, on the day of the event?
We cannot guarantee ticket availability at the ticket windows due to limited capacity. We strongly recommend purchasing your tickets online and in advance due to high demand here.
Are there discount tickets available anywhere?
Buy online for the best price! Discounted tickets are also available for groups of 15 or more when purchased in advance here.
Does a ticket to Wild Lights cover day-time admission to the Zoo?
No, Wild Lights is a separate, ticketed event that provides entry to the Zoo when the event begins.
Do I receive a discount to Wild Lights if I visit the Zoo during the day, and return for the Wild Lights Festival that evening?
Yes, guests that purchase day-time tickets to the Zoo for the same day they attend Wild Lights may receive discounted admission to Wild Lights. Guests must visit the Zoo ticket windows to receive this special discount and provide their receipt for the day-time ticket purchase to qualify.
Do children 2 and under get in free like regular Zoo admission?
Yes, children 2 and under are free. Ages 3 and up require a full price ticket. Families can save money by buying the Family 4 Pack and/or purchasing online tickets in advance.
Do I need to print my tickets if I purchase online?
Not necessarily. Some phones (for example, those with cracked or broken screens), and saved PDF versions of the tickets present scanning challenges. Please do not screen capture your tickets as they will not scan.
Do my tickets cover performances?
All Wild Lights tickets include admission to view the Chinese lanterns and live performances. Other attractions, food, and beverages must be purchased separately.
I purchased a ticket online, but I did not receive a confirmation email/ticket. What do I do?
An email confirming your purchase should arrive within 15 minutes of payment. Please check your Junk/Spam folders for an email from firstname.lastname@example.org. If you entered an invalid or misspelled email during your purchase, the payment will appear on your credit card, but your tickets will not be delivered. Please email email@example.com with the name the tickets were purchased under, the correct email address, and the last 4 digits of the credit card used to make the purchase. We will resend your tickets. Please do not call the Zoo or Member Services for issues related to these tickets.
Do Louisville Zoo members receive special pricing?
Yes. Current members can purchase discounted tickets online and at the ticket windows for persons covered on the membership. We reserve the right to check member cards and photo IDs at the gate. You can also purchase extra tickets for non-member guests not covered on your membership at the same time (at the regular rate).
Do I need to bring my membership card and photo ID even
though I used my ID number to buy my ticket online?

How many discount tickets can I purchase?

I have a membership to a reciprocal Zoo; how will that work?
We do not accept reciprocal memberships for admission for after hours or special fee-based events.
We normally park for free as members. Is it also free for the Wild Lights: Asian Lantern Festival?
Although parking is included with your membership for regular Zoo hours, it is not included for special after-hours fundraising events like Wild Lights. A $5 parking fee per car will be collected (cash only) when you enter the lot. We do not sell parking tickets in advance as the lot can fill up during peak times. Parking spaces are first-come, first-park. There are no shuttles or designated parking locations outside of the Zoo. Please do not park in the former Kmart parking lot as you may be towed.
Can Zoo members bring a guest?
Yes. Additional guests not covered by the membership regularly must pay full price. You can purchase these full-priced guest tickets at the same time you purchase your online discount tickets. We reserve the right to check membership cards and photo IDs at the gate.
Is there a separate Zoo member entrance?
No. All visitors enter through the main gate.
I have some rides included in my regular membership package. Are my rides included or discounted for the Wild Lights: Asian Lantern Festival?
Because this is a special after-hours fundraising event for the Zoo, rides and attractions are not included and are an additional cost for all participants.
